Everyone knows that water is essential for the body to function optimally. Few people seem to really understand how our well-being is affected if our body doesn’t receive its daily requirements of water.

The human body is composed of 25% solid matter, the solute and 75% water, the solvent. This should immediately make us realise how important water is for all our bodily functions.

At the moment a dry mouth (cotton mouth) is the only accepted sign of dehydration but research shows that this signal is the last outward sign of extreme dehydration. The human body has a very highly developed water rationing system. This unavoidable process during states of dehydration makes sure that one structure does not receive more than its predetermined share of water based on priority of structures with the brain taking the highest priority at the expense of all the other systems. The brain is 2% of body weight but it receives 20% of blood circulation. This system is a form of drought management and the body can be in this state for years with the only symptoms being localised pain which can be interpreted as ‘disease’ and that pain will generally get treated only as a localised disorder!
This diseased area is potentially in a highly dehydrated state. The enzymes and proteins that the body naturally should be sending there are not reaching those tissues due to the high viscosity of the blood caused by this localised drought!
Hypertension is not cured but it is treated. An asthmatics constant companion is their inhaler. Peptic Ulcer sufferers are constantly taking antacids. People with allergies just get anti-histamine prescribed to them. Arthritis eventually cripples people. These illnesses can be alleviated and possibly prevented by a sufficient intake of spring water. 8 glasses of water a day are generally the accepted amount but even that falls short and doesn’t take into account peoples size and weight. The bigger you are the more you are in need of water.

According to fitness industry experts, we need:
Body weight in kilograms x 0.033= amount of water in litres per day!

Please try to keep a jug or bottle of water with you most of the time. Keep reminding yourself to hydrate. Monitor your fluid levels. Remember, the very first sign of dehydration is fatigue. The next time you yawn at work grab that glass of water!!
