For years no one could understand why the small coral fringed island of Okinawa in the South-East of Japan, was home to the most numeric group of centenarians any where in the world?

Was this due to the high levels of Omega 3 in the fish oils that gives Japan the accolade of the longest living humans on the planet or was this due to the simple unstressed island living?

In 1979 a British journalist ventured to the island to interview what was said to be the oldest living person on the planet purported to be 115 years old!  He decided to investigate this anomaly and found out that most of the other residents of the island were active and healthy and over 95! The secret seems to lay in the ground water that diffuses through a thick layer of coral rocks which the island is built upon. The ionized minerals upon which the island is built, is leached from the coral rocks and makes the water highly alkaline. For your interest, some bottled waters have acidity levels up to 3.6PH which is more acid than a cup of coffee!!

This coral calcium carbonate rock is electron rich and is said to be the most bio-available calcium to humans. Its perfect natural mix of calcium and magnesium (one gram provides 223mg calcium and 111.5mg of magnesium with over 60 other trace minerals) for bone building and muscular movement and control is the ideal mineral supplement.

More importantly the strong alkalizing affect of this form of calcium (8.2 on the PH scale) quickly helps to remove and stabilize the acidity within the tissues and fluids of our bodies. Inflammation and pain levels are more easily brought under control in this neutral environment. The perfect homeostasis or balance for our blood is when the PH is between 7.2 and 7.4.When there is too much acidity from the food, drinks and toxic environment the blood will remove calcium from our bone structures and magnesium from our heart to help keep the blood PH neutral. Those people with bone-density issues should be aware of this. Okinawans have very low hip-fracture rates and very clear and clean arteries and impressively low cholesterol levels. The least you can do is keep the body as alkaline as you can, and have a diet rich in Omega 3 mono-unsaturated fats, low caloric food intake and eat plenty of vegetable greens and have a high flavanoid intake (high anti-oxidant substances found  in food) Okinawans also have low body fat and are physically very active.

So why do we need calcium in our diet?

  • Helps to strengthen bones and teeth.
  • Regulates muscle functioning, such as contraction and relaxation
  • Regulates heart functioning
  • Regulates the secretion of insulin from the pancreas
  • Helps to buffer physiological acidity

So why do we need Magnesium in our diet?

  • Known as natures Ibuprofen it is the relaxation mineral!
  • It is involved in  over 300 biochemical reactions in the body!
  • Helps to maintain normal muscle and nerve function
  • Keeps heart rhythm steady and bones strong
  • Helps to metabolize energy and synthesize protein
  • It assists metabolism of calcium and Vitamin C
